What Can Be Changed Versus What to Let Go

Often, I hear narratives riddled with anxious features. People getting lost in the worry and what if and missing the fine line with anxious worry: either one can do something about it and thus there is no need to worry one just has to take action or two there is not anything that can be done and one simply has to let go, (do not fall into the control trap). So, it seemed to be a good time for a reminder of some of the things that one can do nothing to change – we can take these items off the worry plate:

The weather – no need to get upset, you control picking the effective wardrobe for the moment.

Taxes – the perfect time of year to remind the only certainties are death and taxes.

Death – only fitting follow up, once again only certainties are death and taxes.

Time moving too fast or too slow – this is an illusion in the first place, more of a mindset issue and time will continue to flow the regular 24 hours regardless.

Other people’s opinions of you – what other people think is not in your control nor does it impact your self-worth or your self-image. The focus is more effective being placed at following your values.

Other people’s illnesses – by all means help and support loved ones and taking responsibility for their health can start to diminish yours. Do what you can and do not own outcomes that are not yours.

Historical events – literally, there history. We are not yet going back in time.

Your age – the number dictates nothing about your abilities

Your physical features, (such as height, body-type), - you control healthy diet, exercise, taking care of yourself and the rest is about self-acceptance. You are the only you there is.

The essence of nature – think having a picnic and hating the bugs, having a beach day and hating the sand, going for a hike and hating the rocks or the sun. Nature is exactly what it is, we do not control it, we observe it. You control having the resources needed to make it the best experience for you.

There you have some ideas for things to simply let go of. Remember to observe not absorb.

Struggling with the needless worry that is living rent free in your mind? Or maybe struggling with how to be flexible with or accepting of what is? I can help, simply reach out.
